Despite the fact that I don’t celebrate the holidays, I do love all the goodies that come out at the varies holiday seasons. And one of the most invigorating smells during the chilly months of winter… is peppermint!
So when I found a Pinterest post about how to make your own Peppermint Body Butter… I just had to share. This could also make excellent gifts on a budget, ’cause you can make quite a bit with just one batch.
What You Will Need:
- 1/4 cup Unrefined Organic Shea Butter
- 2 tablespoons Fractioned Coconut Oil
- 1 teaspoon Vitamin E
- 15- 20 drops peppermint essential oil
- 1/2 tsp. beet root powder (optional for coloring)
- Empty Jar w/Lid
- Microwave Safe Mixing Bowl
Take your shea butter, chop it into pieces and place in microwave safe bowl. Heating in 30 second intervals and stirring periodically until completely melted. Your other option is to place a metal bowl on top of a stove pot with water. Turn the heat to medium and let the steam melt the shea butter. Stir as it melts.
Steam melting, is also the way you melt raw chocolate or cacao nubs. Whichever method you prefer. Both work equally well.
With an electric mixer combine; coconut oil, vitamin E, Peppermint Essential Oil and your melted shea butter. Once completely mixed, place in the fridge until mixture returns to a solid. Which will be about 15 minutes.
With a electric mixer, whip until fluffy. If you are choosing to add coloring, you can do so at this point. Slowly add the beet powder, mixing periodically until you get your desired color.
Now scoop your yummy mixture into your empty jar. And whoola.. all natural, homemade Peppermint Body Butter!
So… how’d yours turn out – do you smell like a peppermint stick yet? Let us know in the comments below!
